Port Said port was constructed with the digging of the Suez Canal in 1869. It is located in the Suez Canal at its northern entrance on the Mediterranean Sea. The port entrance allows for vessels up to 12.80 meters in draft.
Since its construction, Port Said port has played a major role in handling Egypt's foreign trade as well as world trade cargo either crossing therein, or via the Suez Canal. The port of East Port Said is currently being established as a hub port serving world trade, according to the latest technological developments.
Due to its unique location, Port Said port is considered as a touring port with the annual rate of tourist ships calling at the port reaching 470 ships per year.
